We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to join our team at a Special Development School (SDS) in South East Melbourne. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of students with diverse learning needs.
About the Role:
As a Primary SEN Teacher, you will work closely with students who have a range of intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. You will play a key role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that caters to the individual needs of each student.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering tailored lessons to meet the diverse needs of students with special educational requirements.
- Assessing student progress and adapting teaching methods to ensure the best outcomes for each child.
- Developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with other educators, support staff, and families.
- Providing behavioural and emotional support to students, promoting positive social interactions and emotional well-being.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the overall development and support of each student.
- Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that fosters learning and growth.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor of Education (Primary Education or Special Education) or equivalent.
- Special Education qualification or experience working with children who have complex needs.
- Proven experience working with students on the autism spectrum, intellectual disabilities, or other developmental challenges.
- Ability to implement personalized learning strategies and adapt the curriculum for students.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to collaborate with staff, families, and external professionals.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Positive Behaviour Support or similar frameworks.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and learning aids to support students.
- Knowledge of relevant education frameworks and policies.
