If you are an overseas trained teacher, you may be eligible for an Overseas Relocation Grant of up to $10,000 from the Ministry of Education.
This grant will help you with your move and cover costs such as Teaching Council registration, temporary accommodation, airfares, and family relocation.

Overseas Relocation GrantTo begin your teaching journey, you’ll need: Verified copies of your original qualifications, two forms of ID (one must be your passport), two professional references from current or previous management, international police clearance from your home country.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). To teach in New Zealand, you must be NZQA-approved. Check if your qualification is recognised by the NZQA.
To teach in New Zealand you must hold a provisional or full teachers registration, issued from the NZ Teaching Council. To apply for this, you have to have been teaching in your home country for 2 consecutive years out of the last 5 years. You will require a current overseas police vet and some will require to complete a language proficiency test. A comprehensive list of the documentation requirements are listed on the NZ Teachers Council website, otherwise please liaise with your consultant who can help guide you.

EdPay (Education Payroll) is the government body that is responsible for paying all teachers and support staff within New Zealand schools. Once you have received a job offer, the payroll officer at the school will provide you with salary assessment forms to fill out. Education payroll will then assess your qualifications and experience, then match you with a step on the salary scale.
The process of applying for teacher registration can take between six and twelve weeks, depending on the complexity of your application.
